Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa said three other men were also arrested to help in an investigation into an incident that allegedly occurred at a condominium in Cheras, Harian Metro reported.
He added that police received a report from a 22-year-old woman on Oct 7 alleging that she had been extorted and molested.
He said the incident occurred on Oct 1 and that the three men were remanded for three days and subsequently released on police bail.
“Following that, we arrested an assistant superintendent and six officers yesterday. They are in their 30s to 50s.
“They have been remanded for three days from today until Oct 14 to help in an investigation under Sections 384 and 354 of the Penal Code (for extortion and outrage of modesty),” he told reporters today.
According to Rusdi, police are also investigating the alleged wire transfer of money in the case and will also examine CCTV footage.
“The report came in late, so we need to investigate in detail why the complainant reported the offence late,” he said.
Bernama reported that a message on Telegram had earlier gone viral claiming a woman had become a victim of extortion and molest by a group at a condominium unit in Cheras.
In the message, the woman alleged she was threatened by a group of police officers who raided her apartment and tried to extort RM150,000 from her after drugs were said to have been found in her possession. She alleged the amount was reduced to RM90,000 later.
The woman claimed she was released after a local man helped her with a payment of RM10,000 which she was to pay back to him in periodic repayments with interest.
