PETALING JAYA:
Olympian Ashley Lau failed to secure her Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) tour card after finishing 31st in the 2024 Race for the Card rankings.

The 24-year-old Sarawakian ended her “roller-coaster” season with an impressive second-place finish in the Epson Tour Championship at Indian Wells, California, but fell short of obtaining her card, which would guarantee her entry to tournaments on the lucrative LPGA tour.

Only the top 15 secure LPGA tour cards.

The Borneo Post reported that her second-place finish was her best result on the qualifying tour.

At the Paris Olympics in August, Lau, who hails from Bintulu, finished tied 55th in the women’s individual event. Malaysia’s other participant, Alyaa Abdulghany, finished in 120th position

The female golfers who had taken part in previous Games were Kelly Tan, who competed in the Rio Games in 2016 and in Tokyo in 2020, and Michelle Koh, who also took part in the Rio edition.

In an interview with FMT in July, Lau said her ultimate goal was to qualify for the LPGA tour in the US, where she has been training.
