IPOH: Police have arrested a smallholder after a suspected oil palm poacher was found shot in the leg on Friday. A friend of the victim was also detained to help with investigations.
Selama district police chief Sarudin Samah said police seized a shotgun found in the oil palm smallholder’s orchard in Kampung Sumpit Beras, Rantau Panjang, near Selama.
He said investigations began after Selama Hospital’s emergency department reported treating a man with a gunshot injury in his left leg at 7.50pm on Friday.
“The victim was believed to have been involved in stealing oil palm fruit bunches with another friend who has since been detained by the police to help with the investigation,” he said.
He said the smallholder has a record of a previous offence under the firearms act.
