Heavy afternoon rain causes more to flee floods

The number of people seeking shelter at relief centres has increased with flooding in four states.

KUALA LUMPUR:
Heavy afternoon rainfall led to an increase in the number of flood victims seeking shelter at relief centres in Selangor, Perak, Johor, and Kedah this evening.

The number of flood victims rose to 281 people in the Gombak and Kuala Selangor districts, while the number of flood victims in Perak increased to 234 in the Kerian, Matang and Hilir Perak districts.

Landslides have closed the Bagan Serai-Changkat Lobak road and the Kuala Kangsar-Gerik-Pengkalan Hulu routes.

The number of flood victims in the Kluang district, Johor, rose to 195 people, while a new relief centre was opened in the Pendang district, Kedah, to house 48 victims, while 181 victims are at a relief centre in Kubang Pasu.
