Yaacob, 66, who retired on March 12 this year, was called to the Bar before High Court judge Ahmad Kamal Shahid.

In congratulating Yaacob, Kamal praised him, his former boss at the Attorney-General’s Chambers (AGC), as being very knowledgeable in law-related issues.

At today’s ceremony, lawyer Yusof Zainal Abiden helped Yaacob put on his robe.

Yaacob’s admission as an advocate and solicitor of the High Court of Malaya was proposed by lawyer M Athimulan.

In his speech, Athimulan said Yaacob had written more than 900 judgments and a total of 299 grounds of judgment in various legal issues during his tenure as a High Court judge and Court of Appeal judge.

Meanwhile, AGC legal division head Donald Franklin, who appeared for the attorney-general, and lawyer Nik Nurul Atiqah Nik Yusof, who acted for the Malaysia Bar, said they had no objections to the admission of the former judge to the Bar.
