PETALING JAYA:
The Cabinet’s review of a proposal for the care and future of over 500 children and teenagers associated with Global Ikhwan Services and Business Holdings (GISBH) has been postponed.

Women, family and community development minister Nancy Shukri said the delay was due to the need to incorporate new information and recent arrests of GISBH-linked people as part of Op Global.

She hopes that the proposal will be ready for next week’s Cabinet meeting, Bernama reported.

“I was supposed to present it this week, but there is a certain process involving identification.

“Hopefully, (the proposal) will be ready next week and I can present it,” she was quoted as saying after a programme in Johor Bahru today.

Last Thursday, Nancy said the proposal would outline short-, medium- and long-term plans for the children, incorporating insights from several key ministries.

Inspector-General of Police Razarudin Husain previously said the parents of the 572 children and teenagers rescued from welfare homes linked to GISBH had yet to come forward to claim them.

When asked if the parents were aware of their children’s fate, Razarudin said they are believed to be members of the organisation.

The rescued children have been placed in safe houses by the social welfare department.

In related developments, Nancy said more care centres for persons with disabilities are needed in the country to accommodate the growing demands for such centres.

She said there are currently only 11 registered daycare centres for the disabled nationwide, and urged those operating unregistered centres to register the centres immediately before enforcement action is taken.
