Worker falls 50m from Langkawi cable car

His body was recovered at about 5pm today.

ALOR SETAR:
A man fell about 50m to the ground while conducting repairs on the glass deck of the Eagle’s Nest Skywalk of Gunung Machinchang in Langkawi.

The Kedah fire and rescue department launched a search and rescue operation for the man, identified as Khairul Nizam Jaffar, 41.

Langkawi zone 4 chief Zamri Abd Ghani said they were alerted to the incident at 1.15pm and rescuers reached the location about 15 minutes later.

Langkawi police chief Shariman Ashari said Khairul was employed by the glass deck company three months ago.

“Police received information from the glass deck operation supervisor at 12.25 pm.

“The victim was not carrying out maintenance work on the cable car, but on the glass deck.

“The victim is believed to have fallen from the metal bracket holding the glass deck,” he said.

He said the body was retrieved about 5pm.
