ALOR SETAR:
The number of evacuees housed in temporary relief centres in Kedah has dropped to 117 individuals from 34 families as of 4pm today, down from 633 individuals from 212 families this morning.

Suhaimi Zain, the deputy director of the Kedah civil defence force, said only one centre, at SMK Alor Merah in Kota Setar, remains operational.

“The centre at SMK Alor Merah, which has been operational since Sept 28, remains open because the evacuees cannot return home yet as the floodwaters have not fully receded,” he said in a statement.

The irrigation and drainage department’s Infobanjir website reported that no rivers in the state had exceeded dangerous levels.

However, Sungai Anak Bukit at the TAR bridge and Sungai Kedah at the Kota Setar Highway bridge have surpassed warning levels.
