Akmal arrived at the Jasin police headquarters at around 10am, accompanied by his legal team led by Shakeel Saifuzzaman, along with more than 200 supporters, including members of Melaka Umno Youth and various NGOs.
The Merlimau assemblyman spent nearly 45 minutes giving his statement.
Speaking to reporters later, Akmal said his remarks were in response to a statement made by DAP vice-chairman and Seputeh MP Teresa Kok and were not intended to target any specific party.
Akmal said he was not afraid to testify in court regarding the issue, which he said concerns the interests of Islam and the Malay community.
“Therefore, I leave it to the police to conduct a thorough investigation and I will give my full cooperation,” he said.
