Bernama reported the MoU was signed by communications minister Fahmi Fadzil and China’s national radio and television administration (NRTA) minister Cao Shumin to enhance collaboration in the media and broadcasting sectors.
Fahmi said the focus will be on content that showcases the culture, tourism and culinary offerings of both countries, adding that he had instructed Radio Television Malaysia (RTM) to continue ongoing discussions with counterpart agencies in China on the matter.
He said he hopes the MoU will facilitate activities to enhance the friendship between the two countries.
“As the incoming Asean chair, we aim to showcase Malaysia to Chinese audiences in conjunction with the Visit Malaysia 2026 programme,” he said.
“We have a diverse range of programmes available, including dramas, love stories, documentaries, travelogues and food vlogs.
“I see many opportunities, especially in the Xian area, which has a large Muslim community. This is a significant market and Malaysia should encourage more visitors from there.”
Fahmi, who is on a three-day working visit to China, said this after attending a reception hosted by the Malaysian embassy in Beijing.
Earlier, Fahmi held a nearly hour-long meeting with Cao at the NRTA headquarters, where they discussed various topics of mutual interest in broadcasting.
The NRTA, a ministerial-level agency under the State Council of the People’s Republic of China, is responsible for overseeing radio, television and online audiovisual services in the republic, as well as promoting the development of the country’s media industry.
