In the video, which has since gone viral, the group claimed that he had neglected the traders at PPR Wangsa Sari, saying he failed to address eviction notices issued by Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).
Zahir, who lodged the report at the Setapak police station, said the video was first shared on TikTok and later live-streamed on Facebook.
“I want to firmly state that these accusations are baseless. I personally instructed my officers to meet with the relevant parties, and they have been actively working to resolve the issue,” he said in a statement yesterday.
Zahir said two meetings were held with the traders, on Sept 13 and 18, at his service centre, and he had official records of these meetings to prove it.
“Therefore, the issue of not holding a meeting should not have arisen,” he said.
In addition to the eviction notice issue, he said, his team was working closely with the authorities to address concerns about an illegal factory, another matter mentioned in the video.
Zahir also said his role as an MP was that of a facilitator, while the actual enforcement authority lay with DBKL.
“I hope the police will investigate this matter promptly and take the necessary action,” he said, adding that he was seeking legal advice.
The nearly 10-minute TikTok video, which has garnered more than 8,000 likes and 1,000 shares, shows the traders expressing frustration with Zahir’s alleged failure to meet with them and resolve the eviction issue. Some can be heard demanding his resignation.
