Slight drop in number of flood evacuees in Kedah

MetMalaysia predicts thunderstorms and strong winds in parts of Kedah, Penang, Perak and Melaka this morning.

ALOR SETAR:
The number of flood victims in Kedah dropped slightly from 7,181 last night to 6,804 as of 8am today, while 29 evacuees remain at a relief centre in Perak.

The flood victims in Kedah, from 2,173 families, are being housed at 33 relief centres in four districts.

Kota Setar continues to have the highest number of evacuees with 4,638, followed by Pendang (1,606), Kubang Pasu (493) and Pokok Sena with 67 people.

Only one river – Sungai Laka at Kampung Padang Pasir in Kubang Pasu – has exceeded the danger level at 22.12m.

In Perak, the 29 victims from seven families are being housed at the relief centre at SK Changkat Lobak in Kerian.

The water in Sungai Perak, Teluk Sena, is at a dangerous level at 13.20m.

The Malaysian meteorological department (MetMalaysia) is expecting thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Langkawi, Kulim and Bandar Baharu in Kedah; Penang; Kerian, Larut, Matang, Selama and Manjung in Perak; and Melaka until 11am today.
