95% of early voters fulfil duty in Mahkota by-election

PETALING JAYA:
A total of 95.45% of early voters comprising military personnel and their spouses, as well as police officers, cast their ballots today in the Mahkota by-election.

A total of 4,437 early voters cast their ballots at three polling centres, said Election Commission (EC) secretary Ikmalrudin Ishak in a statement.

The three centres were Dewan Mahkota at Kem Mahkota, Dewan Pengaman Zamrud at the police housing estate of the Kluang police headquarters, and SK Sultan Sir Ibrahim.

A total of 4,911 early voters were eligible to cast their ballots in the by-election.

Saturday’s by-election for the state seat is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional’s Haizan Jaafar.

It is being held following the death of Umno assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain, 63, on Aug 2.

The Mahkota state constituency, located within the Kluang parliamentary constituency, has a total of 66,318 registered voters.

Twenty polling centres will be open on Saturday.
