Soldier shot by hunter in Sarawak forest dies in hospital

Police say the soldier was lying on a hammock in the forest during tactical training when the incident happened.

Police said the victim was rushed to hospital for treatment but was confirmed dead by medical officers.

A soldier died after being shot by a civilian suspected to be hunting in the forest area of Km 8, Jalan Balak Multiplus, Song, near here, early today.

Song police chief Rowney Michael Jalak said the victim, Petrus Linggi Liman, 29, suffered severe injuries to his left thigh and hip while he was lying on a hammock during tactical training in the forest area.

“The victim was rushed to Kapit Hospital for immediate treatment but was confirmed dead at 7.43pm by medical officers,” he said when contacted by Bernama today.

He added that the police received a call about the incident at around 2.45am.

“We have yet to identify the suspect.”
