Hazalif Hazani, better known as Alif Teega, and his wife, Aisyah Hijanah Azhari, claimed trial after they were jointly charged before judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud, Berita Harian reported.
They are charged with misappropriating funds meant as donations to purchase dates, copies of the Quran, food packs for the poor in Mecca and Madinah in Saudi Arabia, aid for flood victims, and Hari Raya clothing for orphans.
They are alleged to have committed the offences at the CIMB Bank and Maybank branches at Seksyen 8 and 9, respectively, in Bandar Baru Bangi from May 11, 2011 to July 2, 2024.
The charges were framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code for dishonest misappropriation of property. If convicted, they face between six months and five years in prison, whipping, and a fine for each charge.
The couple were allowed to post bail at RM50,000 each but were ordered to surrender their passports and report to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission every month until conclusion of the case.
The court fixed Nov 27 for case mention.
Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh prosecuted while Hazalif and Aisyah were represented by lawyer Shahrullah Khan.
Last Friday, Hazalif pleaded not guilty to two counts of misappropriation of RM63,605.48 in donations meant for qurban meat as well as iftar meals in Syria, Palestine and Mecca.
The two charges were also framed under Section 403 of the Penal Code.
