PETALING JAYA:
Sarawak’s proposed new international airport will feature state-of-the-art facilities similar to the ones found at international hubs like Doha, premier Abang Johari Openg said.

The new airport, which will be able to accommodate 15 million passengers, will also feature seamless check-ins, allowing passengers to check in only once before boarding, he said, according to The Borneo Post.

“The airport will take at least three to five years to complete, but once operational, it will play a crucial role in attracting tourists and business travellers to Sarawak,” he was quoted as saying.

Abang Johari also said the state is poised to establish its own airline by the end of this year, which he said is expected to significantly boost tourism and connectivity to the region.

“We need people to come, and for that, we need better access.”

Sarawak has been in negotiations to take over regional airline MASwings Sdn Bhd, which will form the basis of a state-owned airline.
