PETALING JAYA:
National shuttlers Ong Yew Sin-Teo Ee Yi failed to make it an all-Malaysian men’s doubles final at the 2024 China Open when they fell to China’s He Ji Teng-Ren Xiang Yu in the semi-final tonight.

They lost 18-21, 11-21, paving the way for the world No 7 pair to play Malaysians Goh Sze Fei-Nur Izzuddin Rumsani who won the other semi-final earlier.

The defeat was the second for the Malaysians against the Chinese pair, having fallen to them when they last met at the German Open in March, also in straight games.

They have only met twice so far in international tournaments.

The 43-minute semi-final match was played at an extremely fast pace with the Chinese players resorting to power play as Yew Sin-Ee Yi defended well in the first game.

Despite trailing 7-11 at the break, they managed to catch up to 15-17 after 15 minutes. However, Ji Teng-Xiang Yu, backed by a vociferous home crowd, made fewer errors to wrap up the first game 21-18 in 23 minutes.

The second game saw the Chinese pair smashing their way to take a quick 5-1 lead. Yew Sin-Ee Yi fought back hard and managed to win a few points but still trailed 6-11 at the break before Ji Teng-Xiang Yu raced ahead to win 21-11 in 20 minutes.
