
In a statement, agriculture and food security minister Mohamad Sabu said his ministry is providing post-disaster aid for affected padi farmers through the Padi Crop Disaster Fund (TBTP) while assisting others in the agriculture sector through the Agricultural Disaster Fund (TBP).
Mohamad, also known as Mat Sabu, said AgroBank has announced a moratorium on loan payments for its customers impacted by the current floods.
Affected farmers, breeders, fishermen and entrepreneurs can apply for this relief at their nearest AgroBank branch.
He said the ministry activated its disaster management committee at both state and district levels after the floods began on Wednesday.
Bernama reported today that flooding in Penang and Perlis had ended after the floodwaters receded.
It reported that the last five temporary evacuation centres in Penang, sheltering 259 people, closed this morning.
In Perlis, the authorities have closed three temporary evacuation centres in Kangar and Arau at noon today.
However, the number of evacuees in Kedah rose to 7,494 as of 8am today compared with 6,760 at 8pm yesterday.
The evacuees from 2,445 families are being placed at 42 temporary relief centres in six districts.
