PETALING JAYA:
Wan Zulkiflee Wan Ariffin is stepping down as chairman of Malaysia Aviation Group (MAG) with immediate effect, after four years at the helm.

In a statement, MAG said Wan Zulkiflee, who was appointed to the post in July 2020, had indicated his intention to relinquish the post in June.

Wan Zulkiflee, a former Petronas president, was named chairman of Nestle (Malaysia) Bhd in May. He is also the chairman of the board at DRB-Hicom Bhd and Gas Malaysia Bhd.

“The board and management of MAG would like to take this opportunity to express its deepest appreciation and gratitude for Wan Zulkiflee’s exceptional leadership and invaluable contributions to the airline.

“Wan Zulkiflee’s wealth of experience guided MAG through the turbulent times of Covid-19, playing a crucial role in ensuring the successful completion of the group’s financial restructuring exercise, reducing the group’s liabilities by over RM15 billion.

“His stewardship was also pivotal in guiding MAG to report its first-ever net income after taxes in 2023 since the group’s inception in 2015,” the company said.

MAG is the parent company of Malaysia Airlines and Firefly.
