In a statement today, the ministry said this was decided following discussions with 12 public universities.
“The students concerned can directly inform those in charge of student affairs at their respective universities of their status as voters in the Mahkota constituency,” it said.
According to the Election Commission, the electoral roll for Mahkota includes 66,318 voters, consisting of 61,397 ordinary voters, 401 police personnel, 4,510 military personnel and their spouses, and 10 absentee voters abroad.
About 45,478 of them are voters between the ages of 18 and 40.
The Mahkota by-election, which will take place on Sept 28, was called following the death of Umno assemblyman Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.
It is a straight fight between Barisan Nasional’s Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah and Perikatan Nasional’s Haizan Jaafar.
Early voting has been set for Sept 24.
