PAS won’t give up on uniting the ummah, says Tuan Ibrahim

The party's deputy president admits that the agenda of ummah unity has 'stalled halfway due to several factors', but vows to continue working on it.

PAS and Umno signed the Muafakat Nasional charter in 2019, which saw the country’s two biggest Malay parties reaching a formal political alliance in the name of ‘ummah unity’.
PETALING JAYA:
PAS will not give up on realising its dream of uniting the ummah despite efforts to fulfil this ambition hitting a snag, says the party’s deputy president, Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.

Following the close of PAS’s 70th muktamar in Temerloh, Pahang, Tuan Ibrahim said he agreed with party president Abdul Hadi Awang’s emphasis on the need to further bolster the agenda of uniting the ummah.

“It cannot be denied that the (agenda of) uniting of the ummah, which had been started before this, has stalled halfway due to several factors.

“Nonetheless, PAS, as a party that bases its principles on Islam and advocates for unity, will never give up on realising this agenda,” he said in a Facebook post tonight.

PAS and Umno had signed the Muafakat Nasional charter in 2019, which saw the country’s two biggest Malay parties reaching a formal political alliance in the name of “ummah unity”.

However, the alliance collapsed after PAS chose to work with Bersatu under Perikatan Nasional, which Umno viewed as a betrayal.

On the sidelines of the muktamar yesterday, Hadi said PAS was still courting Umno to revive the “true” MN pact, but without Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

Previously, the party’s spiritual leader, Hashim Jasin, also said PAS was sincere about uniting the ummah through MN, as this was a higher calling from God.

Tuan Ibrahim, meanwhile, urged all PAS members to keep working diligently to win over the hearts of voters across the nation.

He said the party’s leaders as well as rank and file cannot be complacent despite governing four states – Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis – and being the party with the most number of MPs.

“To carry the message of Islam as a resolution (to issues), PAS needs to continue being at the centre of the community.

“All parties, including non-Muslims, must understand how PAS’s message is one of unity and harmony, in accordance with the principles set by God,” he said.
