MIC still strong despite no govt posts, says Vigneswaran

Party president SA Vigneswaran says even the parties that have Cabinet positions acknowledge and recognise MIC's capabilities.

MIC president SA Vigneswaran said the party continues to stand with dignity and a clear agenda, addressing issues faced by the Indian community.
PETALING JAYA:
MIC is still a strong party that can advocate for the welfare of the Indian community in this country, despite no longer holding positions of power in the Cabinet, says its president, SA Vigneswaran.

He said MIC is still widely recognised for its importance and contributions to the community, Bernama reported.

“Why is there concern and doubt among us about the party’s capabilities? Even the parties in power acknowledge and recognise us,” he said in his keynote address at the 78th MIC annual general meeting in Shah Alam today.

The AGM, officiated by Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, saw the participation of 1,480 delegates, including 100 members each from the youth and women’s wings, and 177 observers.

Vigneswaran reaffirmed that MIC continues to stand with dignity and a clear agenda.

“To date, no other party other than MIC has raised the issues faced by the Indian community and it is our responsibility (as party members) to work together to gain the people’s trust,” he said.

He also thanked Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim for considering MIC’s views and also the opportunity to join the official visit to India last month and meet Indian prime minister Narendra Modi.

Vigneswaran called on all party wings and divisions to diligently fulfil their responsibilities to elevate MIC’s standing.

He said several coordinators will be placed in certain divisions of the party as part of efforts to strengthen MIC and its leadership in facing future challenges.
