Tang Jie-Ee Wei fall to top-seeded Chinese pair in HK Open

The Malaysians fail to repeat their feat over Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping in the recently concluded Paris Olympics.

PETALING JAYA:
National mixed doubles shuttlers Chen Tang Jie-Toh Ee Wei failed to qualify for the final of the Hong Kong Open when they went down to top seeds Feng Yan Zhe-Huang Dong Ping of China in their semi-final clash in Kowloon this evening.

Although Tang Jie-Ee Wei had beaten the world No 2 pair in the group stage at the recently concluded Paris Olympics, they could not repeat the feat and went down 14-21, 21-23 in 56 minutes.

Two weeks ago, Tang Jie-Ee Wei won their first title of the year at the Korea Open. It was also their third final of the year, after finishing runners-up at the Thailand Masters and Swiss Open.

Earlier today, top Malaysian women’s doubles pair Pearly Tan-M Thinaah overcame world No 2 Lee So Hee-Baek Ha Na of South Korea 22-20, 17-21, 21-15 to qualify for the final.

Pearly-Thinaah, ranked world No 8, will play China’s Liu Sheng Shu-Tan Ning in the final tomorrow.
