PETALING JAYA:
A foreigner has been remanded for seven days to assist in an investigation into a robbery and rape case involving a 71-year-old woman in Cyberjaya yesterday morning.

Sepang police chief Wan Kamarul Azran Wan Yusof confirmed the suspect’s remand order, which begins today, Utusan Malaysia reported.

He said the remand order was issued to facilitate the investigation under Section 376 of the Penal Code for rape and Section 392 for robbery.

Wan Kamarul said the 25-year-old shop assistant was arrested at 12.18pm yesterday. Several valuables, including the victim’s mobile phone, were seized from him.

“The victim was robbed and raped while waiting for the lift of an apartment in Cyberjaya. She was taken to a stairwell near the lift before being assaulted,” he said.

An initial investigation revealed the victim lives with her son at the apartment.
