PETALING JAYA:
Former research assistant Yusoff Rawther will be charged in the Kuala Lumpur court tomorrow, says his lawyer, Rafique Rashid Ali.

Rafique said he was just informed by the investigating officer on the matter, and that further details on the charge would be given tomorrow.

“A press conference by the defence will be given after proceedings,” he said in a statement.

Yusoff was arrested at about 9.30am last Friday after police found two fake pistols and what was believed to be a compressed piece of cannabis in his vehicle.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Rusdi Isa earlier said the case was being investigated under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug trafficking and Section 36 of the Arms Act 1960 for possession of imitation firearms.

Rafique said Yusoff denied ownership of the pistols and drugs and claimed they were planted as a trap, and that his urine test for drugs came back negative.

He also said Yusoff told the police the items were planted in his car by individuals who had a personal vendetta against him.
