Singapore Airlines flight grounded at HK airport due to technical problem

The passengers remained on the plane, which was still on the tarmac, for four hours before the flight was eventually cancelled.

An SIA spokesman said Flight SQ893 encountered a technical problem while on the ground.
PETALING JAYA:
Passengers who had boarded a Singapore Airlines flight from Hong Kong to Singapore were stuck in the plane for about four hours after it was grounded because of a technical problem yesterday.

The Straits Times reported that Flight SQ893 was scheduled to take off at 3.40pm but the captain informed the passengers that there was a problem with the plane, and that engineers would be conducting further checks.

Quoting a passenger who wanted to be known as Ms Tan, the Singapore daily said the passengers were informed at about 7.30pm that the flight was cancelled.

The passengers began to disembark shortly after 8pm.

An SIA spokesman said Flight SQ893 had encountered a technical problem while on the ground, which persisted despite numerous attempts by ground engineers to fix it.

The flight was then cancelled, and the passengers and crew disembarked from the aircraft normally, he said.
