PETALING JAYA:
The father of Barisan Nasional’s candidate for the Mahkota by-election, Syed Hussien Syed Abdullah, died today – days after being put in an induced coma.

Syed Abdullah Syed Hamid’s death was confirmed by Umno Youth vice-chief Hairi Mad Shah in a Facebook post.

Syed Hussien, who was announced as BN’s candidate for the Sept 28 by-election just three days ago, previously said his father, who was 67, had to be put in an induced coma at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Kluang, Johor.

Syed Hussien revealed that his father was a cancer survivor but did not disclose the reason for his hospitalisation.

Syed Hussien, the Kluang Umno Youth chief, will seek to defend the Mahkota state seat for BN in the by-election, which was called following the death of its incumbent Sharifah Azizah Syed Zain on Aug 2.
