KUALA LUMPUR:
Parents and guardians have been advised to ensure their children are enrolled at childcare centres (taska) registered with the welfare department, to guard against incidents of negligence, abandonment, and abuse.

The ministry of women, family and community development said the registered childcare centres are regularly monitored and inspected by the welfare department, with unannounced inspections conducted at least twice a year.

As part of the registration process, childcare centres are required to ensure that each caregiver holds a certificate in childcare, the ministry said.

It said 1,080 unregistered centres had been identified since September 2023 as part of the legalisation process. The ministry urged the public to report unregistered childcare centres via the 15999 hotline, WhatsApp message to 019-2615999, or at the nearest district welfare office.

A list of registered childcare centres is available at www.jkm.gov.my.
