KUALA LUMPUR:
Barisan Nasional component party MIC faces a challenge, which could persist, from lacking direct responsibilities in the government, the party’s deputy president M Saravanan said today.

However, with new leaders for the women, youth, Putera and Puteri wings, the party is better positioned to face future political challenges, he said.

Saravanan, speaking after the national convention of the four wings today, said delegates had raised several issues, such as places in matriculation programmes and difficulties in obtaining places in preferred courses of higher education.

“We hope that sufficient matriculation places will be made available to the Indian community, and these issues will be presented to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim,” he said.

Saravanan said MIC is determined to restore its standing within the community.
