Wong Soon Koh says the seat was won by a PSB member and should now be contested by PDP as PSB has merged with the party.

PETALING JAYA:
The Progressive Democratic Party will seek to contest the Batu Lintang seat at the next state elections, said party vice-president Wong Soon Koh.

He said PDP will make a request to Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman Abang Johari Openg, who has final say over seat allocations among GPS component parties, The Borneo Post reported.

“We hope to claim Batu Lintang because it is rightfully ours as the then Parti Sarawak Bersatu candidate See Chee How (now an independent assemblyman) won it in the last state elections,” he was quoted as saying.

“Now that we have joined PDP, we hope that the seat will be given to us,” he said. PDP will discuss the Bawang Assan and Engkilili seats later.

PSB, formerly known as the United People’s Party, was dissolved earlier this year and merged with PDP.

Batu Lintang, Bawang Assan and Engkilili have been historically allocated to the Sarawak United People’s Party which was then part of Sarawak Barisan Nasional.

In the 2016 elections, Bawang Assan and Engkilili were allocated to Wong and Johnical Rayong Ngipa as direct BN candidates.

All three seats were won by PSB in the 2021 elections. Batu Lintang had previously been held by DAP and PKR.
