Norhizam Hassan Baktee, popularly known as “YB Hulk”, said he intends to contest under the Perikatan Nasional banner.
He recently shared a stage with former Barisan Nasional leaders who have since aligned themselves with PN, including former Melaka Umno deputy chief Mohamad Ali Mohamad, at a ceramah.
Norhizam told FMT he wanted to make a political comeback through PN after he failed to defend the Pengkalan Batu seat in the state election three years ago as an independent.
He had won the seat as a DAP member in the 14th general election.
“I want to make a comeback as the people of Melaka still need me. I am told that the state assembly sittings are rather depressing in my absence,” he said, alluding to his controversial outbursts, both inside and outside the assembly.
In 2018, Norhizam, who had previously admitted to being short-tempered, apologised for his rude tirade during a dialogue with residents over the closure of a road.
Two years later, he labelled an opposition assemblyman a “pig” during a heated exchange in the state assembly.
Norhizam said that “when the time comes”, he would be campaigning for the opposition coalition. “The state election is around the corner. If they (PN) invite me to speak at a ceramah, I am willing,” he said.
Melaka is expected to hold its state election by November 2026.
Norhizam, who was with Umno before switching to DAP in 2006, was among the assemblymen who withdrew support for Sulaiman in 2021.
The other two were Bersatu’s Noor Effandi Ahmad and Umno’s Idris Haron, who is also a former Melaka chief minister.
Norhizam later declared his intention of becoming an MP in GE15 either under the DAP or Umno banner. However, the two parties shut the door on him.
Asked which PN component he wanted to join, Norhizam said he had not decided whether to choose PAS or Bersatu, the two parties which he had previously claimed had courted him in 2021.
“There are parties who have been eyeing me, so I’m mulling these options. I see no harm in joining PAS and if I do, I will wear an Islamic turban in the state assembly,” he said in jest.
