Health ministry to cooperate with MACC over false Socso claims

Three government doctors were reported to have been arrested yesterday over their alleged links to a cartel in Penang.

The health ministry said it will not tolerate any abuse of power by its medical staff.
PETALING JAYA:
The health ministry says it will assist the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in its investigation into three senior doctors in Penang who were arrested over their alleged links to a cartel that falsified Social Security Organisation (Socso) disability claims.

“The health ministry is fully prepared to cooperate with MACC regarding the detention of these three doctors,” it said in a statement today.

“The ministry wishes to emphasise that it will not tolerate any abuse of power by health ministry staff, and (we) will not hesitate to take action to ensure that public health services remain at the highest standard.”

A source told FMT that MACC picked up two of the doctors from Seberang Jaya Hospital and one from Bukit Mertajam Hospital yesterday morning.

MACC chief Azam Baki confirmed the arrests.

According to the source, there is a likelihood that more arrests will be made soon.
