PETALING JAYA:
Cuepacs has expressed hope that it will be included in a government secretariat established to look into the rationalisation of federal statutory bodies.

In a statement, its president Adnan Mat said the welfare of personnel must be prioritised in such exercises.

“The views of the personnel, who will be represented by Cuepacs, need to be considered before any action is taken.”

Adnan was commenting on the setting up of the secretariat, overseen by the finance ministry, to address issues of overlapping functions and uncontrolled spending.

Earlier today, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said there were too many statutory bodies.

Yesterday, Anwar hinted that large-scale reforms involving government agencies and departments would be implemented from this month.

According to him, the government must take this step because reforms involving the merger of agencies and departments were still unsatisfactory.

Adnan also said government employees need to take up Anwar’s call to reform the civil service to improve the delivery system.
