Zahid said the application will be discussed during the BN Supreme Council’s meeting. MyPPP left BN after the coalition lost the 14th general election (GE14) in May 2018.
“The BN constitution stipulates that any decision on a party joining the coalition must be unanimously agreed upon by every component member,” he told reporters after attending MyPPP’s annual general meeting today.
Zahid added that as part of the process, BN will also review a court decision on the legitimacy of MyPPP, following a dispute in leadership matters.
“It has finally obtained the court’s decision regarding the legitimacy of the party, which, from a legal standpoint, can no longer be disputed. Therefore, we will raise the matter with the BN Supreme Council,” he said.
On Jan 14, 2019, the Registrar of Societies deregistered MyPPP after a leadership tussle between Maglin Dennis D’Cruz and M Kayveas.
The prolonged crisis ended on April 11, 2023, after the home ministry approved MyPPP’s appeal against the deregistration and confirmed D’Cruz as the legitimate president of the party.
He was elected president during the party’s Supreme Council meeting held on March 19, 2023.
However, D’Cruz died in November last year, and the position of president has been held by J Loga Bala Mohan since then.
MyPPP is one of the oldest political parties in the country and was formed in 1953. It has about 320,000 members in 119 divisions and 3,119 branches throughout the country.
Last June, Zahid was quoted as saying that MyPPP is not a BN component party but rather has the status of “Friends of BN”.
