PETALING JAYA:
Singaporean motorists will now need to make an appointment before visiting Malaysia’s Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) information counter.

This measure was introduced to manage the large crowds at the VEP Woodlands office on the third floor of 186 Woodlands Industrial Park E5, The Straits Times reported.

The VEP information counter began its operations to help motorists with their VEP applications following a directive by the Malaysian government that all foreign-registered vehicles entering from Singapore would be required to use a VEP from Oct 1.

According to the Singapore daily, the VEP information counter is operated by a Singaporean firm, MY VEP, with two counter staff, three technical support staff, and one manager.

The VEP will act as an “identity card” for these vehicles in Malaysia and will allow authorities to track the vehicles’ traffic records, including summonses and offences.

Transport minister Loke Siew Fook said the VEP will ensure vehicle owners comply with Malaysian road regulations.

“Foreign vehicle owners who fail to comply with VEP regulations can be fined up to RM2,000 or jailed up to six months,” he told the New Straits Times on Aug 21.

Appointments to visit the VEP can be made through the website (https://www.myvep.com.sg/appointment) by providing a name and vehicle registration number. Time slots are available by the hour between 9am and 5pm.
