“We have decided to resign from our positions and announce the dissolution of Sabah Muafakat Nasional with immediate effect,” said its chairman Jismit Japong during a press conference in Kota Kinabalu.
Jismit said the 32 committee members unanimously agreed to dissolve the committee yesterday after several incidents which had caused them to lose confidence in MN chairman Annuar Musa’s leadership, reported Bernama.
He said while Annuar had given the assurance that the state branch had full autonomy when it was formed two years ago, MN’s central leadership did not discuss various issues with the branch.
Jismit said this included the appointment of two Sabah MN members to its Supreme Council, adding that this contradicted MN’s principle of joint discussions on matters related to the management and administration of the Sabah branch.
Jismit said an official letter would be sent to the coalition’s headquarters within 14 days to inform it of the dissolution.
He said the former Sabah MN pro-tem committee members were now planning to establish a new NGO focussed on the welfare and economy of Sabah.
MN was originally a short-lived political alliance between PAS and Umno, which ended in December 2022.
Subsequently, MN the NGO was formed with former Barisan Nasional secretary-general Annuar as its chairman.
