PETALING JAYA:
A company based in India is set to invest US$1 billion to establish Malaysia’s first artificial intelligence (AI) park and AI movie studio, says digital minister Gobind Singh Deo.

Gobind said this followed a series of meetings with business leaders in New Delhi, India, where he met the CEO of Immerso AI-IP, Ali Hussein.

He said the venture by Immerso AI-IP, which is a part of the Eros Investments Group, has the potential of creating about 5,000 jobs over the next five years.

“I was informed that the Immerso AI park will encompass an AI university and an AI data centre,” he said in a statement today.

“It will drive global collaborations to support startups. The AI movie studio and film city hub will enhance talent skills in transmedia and digital production in Malaysia.

“The ventures will also identify opportunities to incorporate Malaysian content into the companies’ existing and new intellectual properties (IPs).”

Gobind also said a memorandum of understanding signed by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation and India’s IT services trade body, Nasscom, would see Malaysians being trained in key areas in the digital sector.

“The trip to New Delhi has opened up new opportunities, and I look forward to this investment, which will contribute to Malaysia’s booming digital economy,” he said, adding that some RM1.6 billion was invested into Malaysia’s digital sector last year.

Gobind had joined Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim on a three-day visit to India last week, which also led to both nations agreeing to establish a joint digital council.

Malaysia and India also signed an MoU for the exchange of digital technology-based solutions and exploration of business-to-business partnerships among industry players in both countries.
