People of all ages participated in the festivities, with children, teenagers, and adults huddled around each other playing traditional games such as “batu seremban” (five stones) and congkak.
In addition to the games, the “Kita Merdeka Usanita Malaysia Madani” event organised by Usanita Sdn Bhd saw guests take part in activities such as batik painting and indulge in nostalgic snacks that brought back memories of simpler times.
Famed local singer Ella delivered a performance of her legendary hit “Standing In The Eyes of The World”, prompting the audience to enthusiastically join in and wave the Jalur Gemilang.
Guests, including former prime minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob and former Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Jalil, embraced the patriotic spirit and sang along while waving the national flag.
Usanita CEO Adzliana Hasan explained that the event was meant to reignite a sense of patriotism, especially among the younger generation.
Adzliana said it was crucial to expose young Malaysians to their cultural heritage and instil pride in their country’s traditions.
She added that the heavy use of gadgets by the youth has seen them become disconnected from local culture.
“This event is about revisiting the past and helping the youth connect with the games that have shaped Malaysians’ childhood,” she said.
