The OCM said hosting the biennial games for the seventh time will bring substantial benefits across the political, economic, and sporting sectors, generating a positive nationwide impact.
“As the custodian of multi-sports games in Malaysia, the OCM expresses its deep appreciation to the Malaysian government for agreeing to host the 2027 edition,” it said in a statement today.
“This decision underscores Malaysia’s unwavering commitment to promoting sports and fostering regional cooperation.”
Malaysia hosted the SEA Games in 1965, 1971, 1977, 1989, 2001 and 2017.
In 2017, Malaysia emerged as the overall champion, winning 145 gold, 92 silver, and 86 bronze medals.
In 2022, the SEA Games Federation unanimously awarded Malaysia the hosting rights for the 2027 SEA Games after Brunei withdrew.
This decision aligns with Thailand and Singapore’s upcoming hosting of the games in 2025 and 2029, respectively.
