Perak infrastructure, energy, water and public transport committee chairman Nizar Jamaluddin said water tankers have been sent to the affected areas as repairs continue on the burst pipe that was caused by a water surge at Ulu Slim, Sinar Harian reported.
“A bridge has collapsed and a Perak Water Board water pipe has burst but we have enough water tankers. We can restore the water supply within 24 hours.
“Repairs to the pipe that burst at about 7pm to 8pm yesterday are almost 60% complete,” he was quoted as saying.
Nizar said work to build a Bailey bridge connecting Slim Village with Bandar Behrang started yesterday.
He said the construction of the temporary bridge will take a week, depending on the weather and if another water surge occurs, but construction will be halted if safety risks occur.
“Vehicles heavier than 30 tonnes are not allowed to use the bridge. Priority is given to those going to work and back, and those sending their children to school,” he said.
Yesterday, Perak menteri besar Saarani Mohamad said the bridge will be built for residents and users of a bridge that collapsed after a water surge at Slim Village the day before.
