
Under the scheme, gold medal winners for individual events receive an incentive of RM4,000, while silver medal winners receive RM2,500 and bronze medallists RM1,500.
Speaking to reporters in Mak Mandin today, Chow hinted at the possibility of an adjustment when asked about rewards for those who won medals at the 2024 Malaysia Games (Sukma), which ended in Kuching, Sarawak, last night.
He said some winners had asked him when he was in Kuching if the incentives could be raised, to which he replied that such decisions could not be made lightly.
“However, if the youth, sports and health exco member raises it for discussion, the matter of increasing incentives for all categories will be discussed further,” he said.
He said Penang had exceeded its target of achieving 40 gold medals in Kuching.
Penang youth, sports and health committee chairman Daniel Gooi later confirmed with FMT that he would raise the matter for discussion.
