Wan Rosdy called on all Umno members to trust their leaders to free former party president Najib, who has been in prison for two years.
“So long as there is a way and we have strength, we will strive to get justice for ‘bossku’,” he said in his winding-up speech at the 2024 Umno general assembly here today.
Wan Rosdy stressed that the hue and cry surrounding the royal decree purportedly allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his jail term under house arrest was no political theatre, given the affidavits he and Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi issued on the matter.
“Why would the president, who is the deputy prime minister, and I as the Pahang menteri besar make a drama of this?” he said.
Najib started serving his sentence in Kajang prison on Aug 23, 2022 after the Federal Court maintained his sentence of 12 years imprisonment and a RM210 million fine for abuse of power, money laundering and breach of trust in connection with RM42 million in SRC International funds.
On Feb 2, the Federal Territories Pardons Board shortened his prison sentence to six years and reduced his fine to RM50 million.
On July 3, the High Court rejected his application to commence judicial review proceedings over the royal decree in question, purportedly issued by the previous Yang di-Pertuan Agong.
