Speaking at a gala dinner at a hotel here, Anwar said the government is always willing to listen to the private sector, and he invited corporate leaders to engage with Putrajaya more regularly.
“The government is prepared to review policies and regulations if the private sector can convince us that it will lead to greater investments and economic activities as well as create more jobs,” he said.
“You should also prioritise nation-building when presenting your ideas and proposals. Think of the rakyat and how we can help them.”
He also said Putrajaya is set to introduce relevant tax incentives to support and reward companies focusing on high-impact activities. However, he did not provide details about the tax incentives or the sectors that would be involved.
Anwar was speaking at The Edge Billion Ringgit Club gala dinner and award ceremony at The St Regis Kuala Lumpur.
In his speech, Anwar said Putrajaya is looking at various ways, including trade diplomacy and strategic arrangements, to enhance bilateral and multilateral market integration.
He said this would facilitate the movement of goods, capital, skilled workforce, and technology sharing with neighbouring countries.
He also assured the corporate leaders present that he was confident about the progress the country was making to digitise the economy and to improve public service delivery.
“You will see not just greater efficiency, more decisive and transparent public service, but also significantly reduced incidences and severity of public sector corruption, thus helping businesses perform better and more efficiently,” he said.
“I know everyone is impatient for change to happen for the better. I can assure you that I am equally impatient.
“While some reforms are simpler and easier to implement, others may require a bit more time, detailed consideration and planning prior to implementation. I seek your understanding and support as we work towards realising these reforms.”
