PETALING JAYA:
Lembah Pantai MP Fahmi Fadzil is running against his party colleague, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, in the contest for the post of Kuala Lumpur football association (KLFA) president.

Fahmi, who is PKR information chief, made the announcement in a TikTok post and also named members of his “team”, who he said would be contesting other senior posts, Bernama reported.

He said KL United Sdn Bhd director Syed Yazid Syed Omar will be running for the deputy president’s post, while Azman Abidin, political secretary to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, will contest for the post of KLFA secretary.

He added that deputy prime minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi’s political secretary Razlan Rafii will vie for the vice-president’s post.

“Our aim is to elevate the affiliated clubs, ensure KLFA is managed better and more sustainably so that football in Kuala Lumpur can progress further,” he said.

Abdullah Sani Abdul Hamid has been the acting KLFA president since former Federal Territories Minister Khalid Abdul Samad resigned from the post last March.

The new KLFA committee will be elected at its congress on Sept 7.
