Body of last Sungai Kayan boat tragedy victim found

Three people went missing when the boat capsized on Tuesday while 17 others were rescued.

KUCHING:
The body of the last victim reported missing in the boat capsize tragedy in Sungai Kayan, Lundu, about 72km from here, on Tuesday was found early this morning.

The bodies of two other victims were recovered yesterday.

A spokesman for the Sarawak fire and rescue department said the body of Alasma Jithil, 14, was found floating about 100m from the scene near Kampung Selampit at 6.38am today.

With the recovery, he said, the search and rescue operation at the river jetty has ended.

Yesterday, the body of Vilkie Wilson, 15, was found about 10m from the fire and rescue control post at 11.58am, and the body of Helena Fasha Petrus, 17, was found 1km from the scene of the incident at 5.30pm.

In the incident at 6.10am on Tuesday, a boat carrying 20 people sank in Sungai Kayan. Seventeen of them were rescued.
