
They include statutory declarations from 115 MPs purportedly backing him as prime minister soon after the 15th general election on Nov 19, 2022, which resulted in a hung Parliament.
In a statement to the media, Muhyiddin said 114 declarations had been submitted to Istana Negara on Nov 21, 2022, before a 2pm deadline set by the palace, and an additional declaration was submitted the following day.
Besides the statutory declarations, Muhyiddin submitted to the police a letter from the then king’s private secretary, Nazim Alim, confirming the receipt of the declarations on Nov 21, 2022.
The former prime minister also handed over two letters from the Dewan Rakyat speaker at the time, Azhar Harun, dated Nov 20, 2022, conveying the king’s instructions for MPs with majority support to submit the relevant statutory declarations from other MPs.
“I have provided all the necessary documents and explanations to assist in this investigation. I trust that the police will conduct their probe justly, in accordance with the law,” he said.
The Bersatu president spent about an hour at his office at the Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) building giving a statement to the police over his speech in Nenggiri.
In his speech, Muhyiddin questioned why he was not invited by the former king, Al-Sultan Abdullah Sultan Ahmad Shah, to become the prime minister after GE15.
The Pagoh MP said he had obtained a simple majority and had the backing of enough MPs to form the government.
On Monday, he defended his speech, saying it was not intended to insult the monarchy or incite the public, but was factual.
Muhyiddin’s remarks led to numerous police reports lodged against him, calling for stern action to be taken against him for questioning the king’s authority.
The Tengku Mahkota of Pahang, Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah, had also expressed anger at Muhyiddin over his remarks, accusing him of deliberately disparaging the former king.
The probe against Muhyiddin is being held by Bukit Aman’s classified crimes investigation unit for allegedly touching on sensitive issues related to the 3Rs (race, religion and royalty).
