Jinjang Selatan Tambahan residents want to meet KL mayor over dispute

Their representative Ameer Khan Bargathalli says most are unaware of the status of their compensation after more than 10 years.

PETALING JAYA:
Owners of 560 homes and shoplots in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan, Kuala Lumpur, are demanding a meeting with the Kuala Lumpur mayor to discuss compensation and the clearing of the area, where a mega housing project is coming up.

Ameer Khan Bargathalli, secretary of the Jawatankuasa Gabungan Isu Perumahan dan Pampasan, said the project started in 2013 but that only a few knew about the compensation status while the rest were left in the dark, Harian Metro reported.

“The residents have yet to receive the compensation offer list from Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) and are unsure who is eligible to receive compensation.

“This development project has been ongoing since 2013. They were supposed to provide replacement homes to eligible residents, but to date, only 80% of these replacement homes have been completed, and construction of homes for the second batch of families hasn’t even started,” he said, after handing over a memorandum on the matter to a representative of Kuala Lumpur mayor Maimunah Sharif at Menara DBKL today.

Ameer said the residents want Maimunah to urgently review their demands.

“Shoplot owners are demanding that the eviction notice issued by DBKL, which was supposed to take effect by Aug 31, be cancelled immediately.

“Residents want the lottery notice to be cancelled because the developer held the lottery draw for residents without the knowledge or involvement of the residents’ coalition.

“The residents are also demanding a copy of the compensation recipient list so that they can check and ensure fairness in the distribution of compensation, as there have been reports of outsiders purchasing houses in the area, while the local residents have yet to receive the promised replacement homes,” he said.

He added that residents were pushing for an immediate meeting with Maimunah to resolve this long-standing issue.

“We still have faith in the leadership of the new mayor to resolve the problems faced by the residents.

“However, if there is no response we will escalate the matter to federal territories minister Dr Zaliha Mustafa,” he said.

In a statement released today, DBKL confirmed that Lot PT 26640 in Jinjang Selatan Tambahan had been sold to Uttara Land in November 2017.

DBKL said construction of replacement housing was 88% complete, with full completion expected by the end of this year.

It added that 237 families attended the draw for the first available replacement houses on June 29-30 and July 13-14.

“The development of the affordable housing adjacent to the replacement housing site is currently in the approval process. Uttara is required to comply with the technical conditions set in each planned development.

“Several discussions have been held since 2019 with resident representatives. The residents have been informed that they will be allowed to remain on-site and only move once the replacement houses are fully completed.

“Meanwhile, commercial unit occupants who were previously ordered to vacate the site by Aug 31 will be granted an extension until the end of 2024,” DBKL said, adding that it would review the memorandum submitted today.
