PETALING JAYA:
The Control of Smoking Products for Public Health Act 2024 (Act 852) is expected to be enforced by October, says health minister Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Dzulkefly said all regulations and orders under the Act have been approved by the Attorney- General’s Chambers (AGC).

“We are in the final phase. This October, God willing, we will implement four regulations and one order, as approved by the AGC,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying.

“We have already delayed (on the enforcement once), and hope to implement it in October. While we had hoped to start in September, if that isn’t feasible, October will be the target date.”

The Act, which was gazetted on Feb 2 after royal assent was received on Jan 24, aims to ban the sale and purchase of tobacco products, smoking materials, and tobacco substitutes to minors.

It also prohibits providing any smoking-related services to minors.

Currently, nicotine vape products remain legal for minors under 18 until Act 852 is enforced.
