PETALING JAYA:
A woman was fined RM60,000 by the sessions court in Melaka after she pleaded guilty to being a quack dentist and running an illegal clinic there two years ago.

Christina Liew, 25, was charged under Section 62 of the Dental Act 2018 with practising and providing dental services despite not being a registered practitioner.

She was also charged with running a dental clinic illegally, which is in breach of Section 4(1) of the Private Healthcare Facilities and Services Act 1998.

The offences were committed at Plaza Pandan Malim Business Park on Oct 19, 2022.

Those found guilty of either offence are liable to a fine of up to RM300,000 or a maximum of six year’s jail, or both.

Judge Azaraorni Abd Rahman yesterday fined Liew RM30,000 for each of the offences.

Prosecuting officer Dr Khadijah Wahab from the health ministry’s legal and enforcement division conducted the case while Alvin Tan acted for Liew, who settled the fine.

According to the facts of the case, ministry officials raided the premises following complaints from the public.
