PETALING JAYA:
A deputy director and five enforcement officers from a local authority who allegedly protected prostitution dens and illegal businesses in the capital are set to be charged in court tomorrow.

According to a source, the deputy director and one of his subordinates will be charged in Shah Alam with soliciting and receiving bribes from prostitution dens, while the other four enforcement officers will be charged in Kuala Lumpur with accepting bribes to protect businesses operating without valid licences.

The deputy director will be charged with three counts of soliciting and receiving bribes amounting to about RM130,000, while his subordinate will face one count of soliciting bribes from prostitution dens, said the source.

The four enforcement officers will be charged with receiving bribes ranging from RM200 to RM800 from businesses operating without valid licences in order to prevent enforcement action from being taken against them.

In June, the media reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission arrested three public officials, including a deputy director, after they were suspected of receiving monthly bribes from massage parlours and prostitution dens in the capital.

In July, it was also reported that MACC had arrested eight enforcement officers from a local authority after they allegedly received bribes from businesses operating without valid licences.
